Notes from the May Council meeting

  • Sanctuary member Ali Dahmer visited Council to share with us about her calling and upcoming studies at the Seattle campus of Fuller Seminary. As Ali’s home church, Sanctuary has the privilege of endorsing her as a student at Fuller. Ali, we commend you as you begin your course of study this fall and pray that God will richly bless you.
  • Council voted to approve a three-month Sabbatical for Randy during the summer of 2013. Sanctuary has submitted an application for a Lilly Foundation grant to help with the financial aspects of the Sabbatical. Pray that our application will be favorably received.
  • The 2012-13 Ministry Plan and Budget are nearing completion. Members of Sanctuary will receive an email summary of both in a few weeks. Council encourages you to review these documents and to come to the Congregational Meeting on June 10 when there will be opportunity for questions and discussion.
  • In light of Sanctuary’s strong financial situation at present, Council approved forgiving $1,955 in loans to the Green Bean made over the course of the past two years. This is a tangible and meaningful way for Sanctuary to support the ministry that takes place at the Bean as well as providing a better financial situation for the future move to a new location.
  • Did you know that a visit to the new church office might allow you to say hi to one of at least 13 people – Sanctuary staff and Cluster church planters – who make use of the space? And if you see him, say hi to Brian Wolters from the Overflow Project (formerly Spilling Hope) who will be using a corner now and then for his ministry.
  • Sanctuary has applied for a Technology & Equipment Grant from the CRC’s Sustaining Congregational Excellence program. We are requesting $750 to be used to purchase a computer for the use of our financial manager and for general office use.
  • The denomination’s task force appointed to review the office of deacon has completed a preliminary report for review by the churches. A final report will be considered at the June 2013 Synod meeting.
