Our Seattle Church Planting Cluster is in the midst of an exciting opportunity.  We have just submitted a proposal to Christian Reformed Home Missions for a grant to allow Ben Katt, of our sister/daughter church, Awake, to spend 25% of his time for the next 3 years starting church plants with bi-vocational, missional leaders around the Seattle area.  This will be a great blessing!  We have the potential to start a lot of new and smaller works serving specific “places” and/or specific “people” and see how these experiments take root. If any or all of them gain momentum, then we can seek further denominational and local church support to help staff these upstart churches.
This is an exciting new approach to church planting. It also places Ben in a key leadership role for which he is ready and very capable. It also allows for more planting activity in our area because, while Ben is working this angle, we at Sanctuary’s Church Planting team will continue to prayerfully weigh options for us to move ahead with additional plants.  When less than 10% of a county goes to church, there is plenty of room for lots of new expressions of the church with fresh leaders that are passionate to both say and live the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Pray for Ben and the CRC in this planning stage. And, if you know of any leaders or people groups we could perhaps approach let us know.
