Awake church
Full.
Full seems like a good word to describe Awake Church these days.  Many of us are in a season of starting families and/or starting careers.  Whether you are in this season now or were a while ago, you probably remember this “fullness.”   Furthermore, the Aurora area continues to be a place of great need.  The Commons is
full on a daily basis – we’re noticing an increase in the number of young women who seem to be new to “the life” of prostitution along Aurora Avenue. Often they enter “the life” to survive and fuel their addictions, addictions which are often an attempt to survive/escape situations of abuse and exploitation.  Lisa, Karen, and Elizabeth are three Awake women who are on the front lines of our work on Aurora, leading the rest of us into these dark and heavy places, extending the love and hospitality of Jesus to these women “in the life,” and all the while pointing out signs of hope and glimmers of light.
Here are some other reasons we’re feeling full:
On Saturday, April 13, Awake Church turned 5 years old!  This is hard to believe…  We have much we are thankful for – God has provided for us, given us vision and guidance, and allowed some of our dreams for Aurora and life together to come true!  We’re going to be having a birthday party that night to celebrate God’s goodness – please know that we will be imagining all of you, our faithful and generous supporters, in the room with us.
Babies, lots of them.  Our church now includes about 25 children.  And – no joke – they’re all 6 years-old and younger!  In recent months, all three of the women on our preaching team had babies. It was nice to finally meet the three babies who had been a part of our biblical and theological conversations for the past nine months!
Jesus said, “I have come that [you] may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10.10).  May
you, maywe, as we go about our lives full of family and work and play and relationships, be awakened to the grace, beauty, and hope that is the fullness of life that Jesus invites us into.
With Much Love & Gratitude,
Ben Katt, Co-pastor of Awake Church
