This week’s devotion: Hanna Whitall Smith: Recovering the Joy of Service
Next week’s devotion: Jeremy Taylor: The Grace of Humility

This past Sunday, we spent time in Daniel 4, where King Nebuchadnezzar describes his dream and the way God got ahold of him through a pretty disruptive event (losing his sanity, his kingdom, living like an animal, etc. – just read the description of what happened to him in verse 33!).  God, in his mercy, ultimately restores him, and this whole chapter is bracketed by some marvelous songs of praise – written by the king!  Talk about a conversion – this is the same king who overthrew Jerusalem and carried off God’s people into exile.  Praise God that no one is ever beyond redemption; no one beyond God’s gracious reach!  In the sermon, I quoted from a fantastic article about the challenges and opportunities for the church in how the Christian faith is shared and accepted in exile.  May God give us the steady faithfulness, and attractiveness to live our faith in Christ as a “community of plausibility,” and may we “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”

Grace and peace to you,
Mark
