Oct. 15 – Charles Spurgeon – Sermon on Revival

In this past Sunday’s sermon, I mentioned Leaf, by Niggle; a short story by J.R.R. Tolkien in which questions of our work, it’s value to God, and our relationship to it are all raised in a delightful story about a painter named Niggle. As you read it, pay attention to the names of the characters, they are not accidental. For example, Niggle means: to spend too much effort on minor details.  Enjoy!

Further questions for reflection:
1. Deuteronomy 11:1 begins with the word “therefore.” Read 10:12-22 what is the context of this verse? What is the reason for this command?
2. Why is it important that this verse doesn’t just command obedience, but links it with love?  How are these held together in our relationship with God?
3. Irenaeus (a 2nd Century Saint) said ““The glory of God is a living man [or man fully alive]; and the life of man consists in beholding God.”  How can our lives bring glory to God?
4. How will you connect the love of, and obedience to God in your life this week?

For the month of November, the Green Bean will be displaying collaborative community art work! What does this mean? We will have 3 meetings, in October, at the Bean with paint and canvas ready for neighbors to get together and team up and create a piece of art together. We will take pictures of the participants and get paragraph statements from them about their love of the Bean or the neighborhood or the project, and display them next to their finished pieces.
