  ScriptureMatthew 22:37-40

Question: What does the law of God require?
Answer: Personal, perfect, and perpetual obedience; that we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love our neighbor as ourselves. What God forbids should never be done and what God commands should always be done.

Further questions for reflection:
1. In this passage Jesus is quoting from the “Shema,” an Old Testament passage found in Deuteronomy 6:4-9. Read this passage.
2. Think about the different areas of heart, soul, might and mind. What are the different ways we express love for God in each of these areas?
3. Read Matthew 5:17-20.  How does this shape our view of the law of God?  How do we view the law through the “lense” of Jesus?
4. What are the biggest hindrances to loving neighbors in our society?  What are your biggest hindrances to loving your neighbors?
