Meet Sanctuary’s New Intern!

Drew is a graduate student at The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology working on a Master of Divinity. He is interested in living the story of Scripture, exploring an enchanted world, and caring for people in the church. He hopes to serve and shape the church in the days ahead as a pastor and teacher. As our intern for the 2016-2017 school year, he will assist in leading worship, be a part of our preaching team, serve as the Spiritual Formation Leader for our Wednesday community group, and continue learning and leading in a variety of other ways. He also enjoys good coffee, long mornings, evenings with friends, board games, stories, and conversation. He wants to get to know you.

Park(ing) Day Volunteers

Each year in September, Seattle celebrates Park(ing) Day. What is it? It’s a time when local businesses and residents take over vehicle parking spaces and turn them into temporary parks and public spaces. The Green Bean did this last year, and is planning to do it again this year. On Saturday Sept. 17th, starting at 10am, we’ll bring tables from the church office out to the street in front of the Green Bean. We’ll have butcher paper and markers for people to draw, sketch, or write what Greenwood looks like to them. We need some people who are willing to hang out during the day as hosts. The event runs from 10am to 5pm, and it would be great to have at least one volunteer or family around to host at all times. If you’re interested in volunteering for a 2 hour block, email Jonathan Assink and let him know you’re availability. Even if you aren’t available to come hang out for an extended period, we’d love to see you! Drop by and say hi!

Christ & Cascadia Conference
October 14 (10am-5pm) & 15 (9am-4pm)
University Presbyterian Church, Seattle WA

Why Christ & Cascadia?
It is clear that this region presents the church with a wide range of cultural challenges and opportunities. How can Christians better understand and respond to these cultural realities? How can they do so with creativity, conviction, and compassion? The Christ & Cascadia Conference envisions a truly collaborative future where Christian scholars, pastors, and cultural leaders can dialogue about the cultural and spiritual renewal of their region….together. While millions of Christians and thousands of churches call Cascadia “home,” there are relatively few discussions of the relationship between these churches and the regional culture they inhabit. This October a coalition of Christian scholars, pastors, and leaders are gathering in Seattle from around the region to discuss how the church can better know and love this place.

This conference is made possible by a grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust and is hosted by the Fuller Institute for Theology and Northwest Culture.
