I want to share briefly with you about some missional activities we are supporting that don’t fit in the category of standard church planting. In cooperation with Classis Pacific Northwest and Home Missions, our Seattle Cluster (and Sanctuary) are releasing Ben Katt and Clarence Presley to recruit, train and deploy new missional leaders outside of the tradition  CRC boundaries.  Ben is working with potential missional community/church planters in South Park South Seattle, Ballard and West Seattle. Clarence has a group of 12 or more ethnic leaders in the Central Area and South Seattle that he is grooming to plant churches and missional communities.  Both Clarence and Ben are working these networks at about 25% of their time and the fruit is promising.

When I was a much younger pastor, working at University Presbyterian Church for and with Dr. Bruce Larson, Bruce stress, “Build the Kingdom always and Christ will build the Church”.  I really buy into and practice this philosophy.  I LOVE the CRC denomination and I LOVE Reformed Theology. And, I love Jesus Christ and his kingdom along with those loves….but, love Jesus first and foremost.

What’s really exciting about our denomination’s support of Ben and Clarence’s work is that they are affirming the JESUS FIRST priority, not just in spirit, but in tangible financial support — Ben and Clarence’s churches and our Classis are also putting Jesus first.  This totally fires me up to be part of the CRC and to have the privilege of working outside of the walls of our denomination to outwardly extend the walls of the Kingdom of God.

Thanks be to God for two great leaders and a system that honors experiments in outreach and which lives by Kingdom values.

Please join me in prayers of thanks for this opportunity and prayers for wisdom and guidance and favor in the community for Bean and Clarence.
